Philosophy of Education

Catholic Education is the extension of our Faith Life - built on prayer, study and the reception of the Sacraments - as it is enriched, deepened, and shared through interaction with others.

Catholic Education is witnessed by integration of life with religious truths and values. In order to achieve these values, a sound working relationship must be created among parents, students, and teachers.

As Christian educators, we accept students as capable of working and learning. We do not excuse them from this role of responsibility. We endeavor to create a healthy, secure environment, where skills and knowledge, both academic and physical, can be attained.

Our goal is to provide for the spiritual, intellectual, social, psychological, and physical development of the whole student.

These objectives are achieved through the following activities:

SPIRITUAL

1. The students experience different forms of daily prayer, i.e.,. formal, spontaneous, and prepared prayer services.

2. The students celebrate the Eucharistic Liturgy in both small and large group settings on a weekly basis.

3. The students are given preparation, and regular opportunity, for the celebration of the Sacraments.

4. The students have daily religious instruction.

5. The students experience seasonal religious observations, i.e., Advent, Lent, Holy Days, Praying the Rosary and Benediction Services in ongoing celebrations of the Church Year.

6. The students experience periodic field trips concerning religious topics.

7. The students are given instruction in vocational options for their adult life.

8. The students are given the opportunity to participate in service activities within the community.

INTELLECTUAL

1. A positive learning environment which fosters the growth of each individual is offered.

2. The students are challenged to work to their ability level.

3. Individual attention and appropriate affirmation is provided for the students.

4. Students develop good study habits, problem solving, and decision-making skills.

5. Students are taught responsibility for their daily work.

6. Continuous staff development contributes to the academic excellence of the school.

7. Communication between teachers and parents takes many forms; i.e., classroom visitation, two or more formal parent-teacher-student conferences, report cards, newsletters, teacher letters and /or phone calls.

8. Curriculum textbooks, materials, and resources are updated, maintained, and evaluated on an eight-year cycle of development and improvement.

9. Computer education, physical education, and music education is offered to all children; foreign language is offered to 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Teachers are specialists in their fields.
