Uniform Dress Code Policy

 

St. Agnes School is dedicated to providing its students with an educational environment conducive to the learning process. Consequently, St. Agnes School believes that it is necessary for students to dress appropriately at all times while at school. To accomplish this, St. Agnes School has adopted the following uniform dress code.

Both the girls and boys may wear St. Agnes Spiritwear and/or Team apparel with the St. Agnes logo and/or name present.

Students may NOT wear an outfit that is all black. If black pants are worn, then a colored top or some type must be worn. The reverse is true if a black top is worn.

For the purpose of clarification, jeans are defined as any pants made from denim material, cargo pants are defined as any pants with pockets in an area other than the four traditional locations - two front and two in back. Clothing material must contain some percentage of cotton in its makeup.

SHOE GUIDELINES: ALL STUDENTS

  • All shoes must be clean and neat
  • Socks must be worn with shoes (white/navy/black)
  • Shoes must have tie, buckle or Velcro closures and must have a back. No slip-ons, sandals or platforms.

JEWELRY

  1. NO dangling earrings or bracelets of any kind in grades K-5.
  2. NO earrings that exceed 1" in size, grades K-8.
  3. NO earrings for boys.
  4. NO "choker" necklaces.

MAKE-UP

  1. Moderate make-up in Junior High (6,7,8) only.
  2. NO make-up in grades K-5 will be allowed.
  3. NO tattoos are allowed.

HAIR

  1. NO hair below the collar for boys, including tails.
  2. NO razor or scissors cuts on the head.
  3. NO excessive hair spray.
  4. Hair coloring can only be done with "natural" colors.

-"Natural" shall be determined by the principal.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  1. NO make-up, nail polish, or hair spray containers are allowed on the school premises.
  2. Field Trip attire must be in accordance to the event attended.
  3. Shirts must be tucked in at all times.
  4. PLEASE NOTE CONSEQUENCES OF DRESS CODE VIOLATIONS.

The principal will have final authority to determine if a child is within or has violated the dress code policy, or the spirit of the code.

Any items not specifically addressed by the dress code are to be determined by the principal. The principal's decision in dress code matters is final.

UNIFORM GUIDELINES PENALTIES

The failure of student to follow the uniform dress code undermines the educational environment at St. Agnes. Accordingly, major violations of the uniform dress code will result in the following penalties:

Referral to parents
Referral to parents and detention
Referral to and conference with parents
Handled by the Principal and may result in expulsion.

Determination of whether a student is in/out of compliance with this dress code will be at the discretion of the teacher/principal. St. Agnes is a private, religious education institution and reserves the right to determine and insist upon a norm of appearance for its students. School time is a time for serious academic purpose. Not adhering to the guidelines set by the school undermines the climate. Clothing and accessories which draw unusual attention to the wearer are not appropriate.
